Trondheim, Norway's Sugarfoot meets US artist and songwriter Terry Lee Hale for a joint recoding project. Two songs written by Hale -"Watershed" and "Seventeen"- and recorded in Trondheim back in October 2018 will be released on Crispin Glover Records (HALECGR136). It is being released as a blue vinyl 7" single in a very limited screen printed "watershed cover" that actually sheds water!

We never intended it to take five years of course. But, in the middle of everything the plague hit. However, during the lockdown, we still manage to make this pandemic style Brady bunch inspired video for “Watershed”. Enjoy the music!

The EP is available from Terry Lee Hale’s Bandcamp site for 17€ including worldwide shipping.

Hello friends and music lovers,

I am happy to announce the release of an “instrumental only” CD entitled Deaf Heaven. It’s mostly guitar music recorded at my writing desk. Hi fidelity recording it’s not but, all the song files were mastered. You can hear them all at my Bandcamp page (links below). Here’s what I wrote for the blurb:

Unreleased TLH instrumental music. Home recorded all.
Guitars (6 & 12-string, Dobro), harmonica, keyboards
2004 - 2020 Limited edition of 300

Most of these songs were recorded at my writing desk. Demo's in a way. Scratch paper notes done digitally. I
have been using a Sony Walkman MZ-R700 (and small Sony mono 1/8" mini jack mic plugged directly into that tiny machine) for a long time and, in fact, still use one today. Over the years there have been some very good performances and that is most of what you will hear on Deaf Heaven. I also have a small Protools rig that I drag out occasionally. Any double tracking and the 2 keyboard songs included here use that kit. This project was originally meant to be a "tour only" release. 300 copies, bang, out the door and a little extra money in our pockets. That tour never happened though but the limited run of CD's remains the same. If you want to see my shaky handwriting I'll sign (or initial) your copy (if you ask). It's art now!

So that’s it. Nothing fancy but good, solid guitar playing and in variety styles. Still, it’s a peek behind the curtains and always very much TLH music. Katy made another of her “flower videos” but this time with the Texas state flower, Bluebonnets. You can find it all by following the links below. And after 300 it’s over!

Happy Holidays!

Hey everybody,

Some great news to share. For the first time ever, I will have distribution in America for a record of mine! Yep, The Gristle & Bone Affair is now available Stateside through Forced Exposure. Located just outside of Boston in Arlington, MA, their catalog represents thousands of independent labels and their artists. And, of course, fair prices for the CD and LP’s as well as the shipping. Check it out

https://www.forcedexposure.com/Artists/HALE.TERRY.LEE.html

I’m going to be dinging you for some help with getting the word out though. But for now though, please follow the link and consider buying the disc!

"His 14th album with unexpectedly gentle voice completely in the service of these seven-pointed-songs." (Rolling Stone- DE)

“With The Gristle & Bone Affair, the native Texan and French man by choice delivers an intimate, quiet masterpiece — and the best singer/songwriter of the year to date. Hale takes it easy on his 14th studio album, acoustic guitar, harmonica, double bass. Pedal steel, violin — that's all he needs to bring eight heart-touching songs, including the instrumental Doesn't Matter Anymore, to life. (Mint – DE)

“Hale has come a long way and traveled many roads in his long and winding career from the Seattle grunge days and time on Sub Pop to a quieter life in France, but his dedication to the authenticity of his songwriting has stayed unwavering as his 14th studio album The Gristle & Bone Affair will forever stand as not only one of his best but as a testimony to this songwriter’s legacy”. (The Global Texas Chronicles – DE)

“Think of a cross between Townes Van Zandt and Raymond Carver and you will have the new creature of TLH, minimal-minimal both in the lyrics and, above all, in the sounds” (Roots Highway - IT)

Hale has long since left the States, moving to Marseille. Change of life and habits, not aesthetics: songs of magnificent essentiality that tell of "people, emotions, follies", this time dressed with wisdom by a backing band of absolute value. 4 out of 5 it's a win!” (Alias/ ll Manifesto - IT)

Hello friends and music lovers,

The positive response to my recent PK announcement was really overwhelming. It was also much needed and most gratefully received! Really!! Now I am more determined than ever to move forward boldly and damn the head winds. Thank-you, thank-you for all the love and support!

At long last “The Gristle & Bone Affair” is being released. It was 9 months ago when we turned in the files. Much has happened since then but at last I can share it with you. Don’t forget that Bandcamp forgoes their normal fees the first Friday of every month, so all funds drop right in our bank’s cha-kang!

A couple of springs ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s syndrome. I had been noticing decreased abilities in my right finger-picking hand. Nevertheless, I continued making recording plans and indeed served up what I feel is possibly my best writing and singing to date. A stellar cast of musicians proved to be key as well Chris Eckman’s sure handed production skills. Matt Emersons Brown’s mix brought it all home. The guitar player that I had become didn’t seem to matter given the above facts.

Unfortunately, there have been some troublesome changes lately. Recently I played a small party for a few friends. My lack of muscle coordination in the right arm was noticeable. The shaking in my right hand was visible and the stress of knowing that there was no hiding it, made it worse. Stress. A self-generating loop.

A public announcement seemed the best way to deal with it all. I am a public person and I have never been good at pretending. So, the first thing to be done was to cancel my September tour with Žiga Golob (bassist). This was not a decision I took lightly but it was a necessity. Facing a 6435+ km tour stretched over 14 days would be a difficult task for a healthy person. The promoters have now all been notified as well as my label. Everyone has been very understanding.

For now, I can still sing and even play guitar enough to write songs. The practice of Chi Gong and a good diet makes an immediate impact. My wife Katy has been a huge help. Perhaps this marks the closing of a chapter but certainly another could be written. I’m certainly not the only guitarist and songster that’s come down this road.

This is not an easy thing to share with you. So many of you have been with me since the beginning. We are family. More than blood even. Bound together by song, music and time and it makes for a powerful connection.

Thank you for all your support and love.

Here is the second Glitterhouse Records video single release from my new album “The Gristle & Bone Affair”. That release will be the first Friday in September (02.09.22). The song “Fish” features the magnificent pedal-steel playing of Jon Hyde, the perfect harmony vocals of Claire Tucker and, as always, the rock steady contra bass bottom notes played by Žiga Golob.

I put the video together myself using iMovie and “free to use” contributions of the artists belowBig thanks to each everyone of them. Videos played generally in the order listed. It’s a cool site. Check it out!

You can still preorder "The Gristle & Bone Affair" at my Bandcamp link below.

<https://terryleehale.bandcamp.com/album/the-gristle-bone-affair>

That money will drop directly into my bank account! Cha-ching! And you will receive “The Gristle & Bone Affair” CD/LP (+ high quality digital files) delivered to your door in advance of the release date (Sept.2). Bandcamp is safe and easy to use! Preordering on Bandcamp will also get you a digital file of the “Oh Life” single as soon as you make the order!

Again, thank you all for your continued support.

Fish

Holding her in my arms before leaving her there

I always wanted, was my intention

But I was stunned by how much she loved me

No denying, I couldn’t say it, I wanted to say it

But now the only thing that’s left is the cripple

And the sound of the seasons

Sad as winter

Fish that couldn’t swim

Bird that wouldn’t fly

Worm that couldn’t crawl

Man that wouldn’t try

I am

Home she called and wanted to be

An ocean and more away from me

Or some sign, just try

But facing back, hand to brow

Skin to shed and not knowing how

Floating islands and then some

Fish that couldn’t swim

Bird that wouldn’t fly

Worm that couldn’t crawl

Man that wouldn’t try

I am

Down in the valley below I wander

Likes to do it alone but no wonder

Eagle eye glinting, picking my bits

But there she comes again, how you call it

A strong-box future or is it falling

I don’t know and can’t let go

But creaking with joy, distempered laugh

She begged to go and I let her pass

Fish that couldn’t swim

Bird that wouldn’t fly

Worm that couldn’t crawl

Man that wouldn’t try

I am

Hello friends and music lovers,

I am very excited to announce my new single (and video) "Oh Life" - the opening track on my upcoming album "The Gristle & Bone Affair (out September 2nd).

The beautiful video was directed and shot by August Braatz in Slovenia. The track features Catherine Graindorge on violins and Žiga Golob on bass.

I have decided to change gears in regards to crowd funding. The short answer as to why, is basically there were just too many moving parts for me to manage.
Thanks to all those of you that expressed an interest in contributing.

If you want to continue forward with me, I suggest using my Bandcamp site (below) to preorder the record:
